Everyone will agree that balancing your meals is the key to a healthy lifestyle. If you need to lose weight or you just want to switch to a more healthy diet, there is no need to consult a nutritionist. Food Planner will help you manage tour daily meals, calorie intake and more. It also comes with a large collection of recipes for healthy meals.

Food Planner will not take up too much of your disk space. It can be installed in a few seconds on most Windows versions. Before setting up the software, you will need to install MS Access 2007 or higher.

The options can be found on a window, within a larger window. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and other meals can be organized in a table of contents, under separate tabs. You can add new items in the table by typing a description, quantity and calories in a box beneath the table.

After adding a new item, you can edit its details, on a separate window. Just select it and click the Details button. You will be able to insert a description for the food, personal notes, the weight of a portion, number of calories, proteins, carbs, fat and a quantity of alcohol. You may organize your meals the same way for each day. Switching between days can be done by clicking the left or right arrows in the upper left corner of the window. This is not all you can do with Food Planner.

If you want to lose some weight, it is possible to create a food plan with the aid of a wizard. It can be launched by clicking a button, in the lower area of the window. During its steps, you have to specify your name, date of birth, weight, height, your daily activity level (sedentary, active and so on), how much weight you plan to lose and more. According to these details, the program will calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and it will recommend a maximum number of daily calories. After creating a new plan, a weekly summary will be displayed, next to the table of contents, with a maximum number of calories for each day.

The software features a database with over 7000 food entries, taken from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). It will be displayed on a separate window, where the layout of tables and options is similar to the first window. Meals are listed in the upper left corner and selecting one will display its ingredients and cooking directions in a table of contents. You will find the quantities of proteins, carbs, fat and number of calories for each recipe, as well as the macronutrient ratio. It is also possible to add your own recipes to the database.

Pros

Food Planer will automatically calculate how many calories you should consume. It lets you organize your daily meals and it gives you access to a very large database of healthy recipes.

Cons

The interface's "window within a window" approach can be a bit uncomfortable. If you are planning on losing weight, you don't need to spend your money on experts. Food Planner will help you manage your diet with its simple and flexible features.
